Town of Cary

Two new greenways opened this summer:
Higgins Greenway Phase 3 extended the existing 1.5-mile-trail from SW Maynard Road to Kildaire Farm Road an additional 0.7 miles. It is a 10-foot-wide path for all transportation modes and connects to Cary Arts Center, Downtown Cary Park, Dorothy Park, and Kay Struffolino Park. Access this trail from a variety of streets including SE Maynard Road, West Chatham Street, Union Street, Danforth Drive, Griffis Street, S. Harrison Avenue, Heater Drive, Shirley Drive and Kildaire Farm Road.

Black Creek Greenway Phase 1 from West Dynasty Drive to Livingstone Drive was completed and reopened on August 29, 2025 (pictures below).
This project will improve and rehabilitate Black Creek Greenway from West Dynasty Drive to Old Reedy Creek Road and complete an existing sidewalk gap along Cary Parkway over Black Creek.
The construction duration is three years and is taking place in three phases to help minimize impacts to greenway users. Each phase will require closing and detouring that section of the greenway while the other sections of greenway remain open.

Phase 2 – Started September 2025. Black Creek Greenway, from Livingstone Drive to north of Weston Parkway, will close during the first week of September as renovations begin on this section. Construction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026.
